Review: A Fine Balance

A Fine Balance A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A Fine Book.

It is a piece of fiction but it can't be any closer to the truth. Reading it takes you closer to reality rather than taking you away from it.

The book contains exceptional insights into human emotions and behaviour and still better expression of the same. The love, the loss, the friendship, the family, the discrimination, the daring, the help and the helplessness.

The events narrated in the book underline, again and again, the feeling of helplessness that overcomes. The reader cannot remain untouched by the feeling of helplessness being felt by the characters. Often the conditions are just too stubborn to be dictated or even influence by us in the slightest.

Balance is the essence of life and this book captures it beautifully. The conditions endured by the characters and the path they choose in the end balances out each other. Those who endured the worst continue to struggle while those who suffered the least abandon the struggle.

A balance between Hope and Despair is perfectly maintained.
